Seven arrested for child marriage

PANCHTHAR, DEC 15 -

Police has arrested seven persons participating in the marriage ceremony, including bride and groom from the ceremony in Panchthar Friday on the charge of child marriage and have released on bail.

Police arrested them after the District Child Club Network petitioned saying the groom side put in the marriage ceremony for marriage of Sumitra Ghimire, 15, daughter of Narendra Ghimire of Lumfabung -5 in Panchthar with Rajan Dhamala, 17 son of Dhan Kumar Dhamala of Fidim -2 without the agreement of the parents of the bride.

Police arrested father of bride Dhan Kumar Dhamala, grandfather Amrit Dhamala, uncle grand father Mitralal Dhamala, sister Rita Dhamala and priest of Ranigaun -8 Krishna Gadal and released on bail including the bride and groom.

They were released on bail of Rs. 5,000 each on the orders of Panchthar District Court and the bride and groom were handed over to the parents.

Legal process is underway, said Inspector Gopal Prasad Dhakal. RSS
